Who is GOD Of Love : Cupid

Aphrodite, Eros, and Pan, aka the "Slippe...Image by greekgeek via Flickr

All of us know the god of love as a small winged boy. In early images, actually he was often shown as a beautifully formed, full-grown man. He is always believed to be armed with love arrows. He also is sometimes shown riding a dolphin or lion.

The Story behind the love god:

According to some there are two Eroses. The elder one is the early god, and the other is cupid (the eternally young son of Aphrodite). Eros is the cause of the birth of all the immortal gods and goddesses. Eros is also considered to be the most beautiful and youngest of all gods.

As the legend goes Eros or commonly known as cupid falls in love with Psyche. He is a very radiant god and so for her safety she says she will never look at his face. So he came to see her only in the night. But everyone doubts his beauty as she is so scared to see his face. One night to prove everyone wrong Psyche lights a candle to see cupid's face and accidentally drops a few hot oil drops on cupid. This burns him and he flies away in physical pain and also the grief that she has doubted his beauty.

Aphrodite, who is his mom, is furious over the incident and over the concealed relationship. While Cupid is recovering from the injury, Aphrodite puts extraordinarily difficult situations for Psyche to face to get rid of her from cupid life. But soon Cupid recovers, and comes to the rescue of cupid, and they marry. So the love god lives happily ever after.
